If you are looking for transparency as far as pricing and procedures, DO NOT GO HERE! Especially if you have Medi Cal. I went in a week ago, for the first time. I have to be sedated for extractions and had checked ahead of time to make sure Bright Dental accepted Medi Cal and that the oral surgeon who comes once a month accepted it as well. Check and check.
During my appointment with the dentist, I made sure to inform him of the need to be sedated and why. He was very glad I informed him and they scheduled my appt with the o.s. Knowing that Medi Cal would cover the sedation, I was told if everything was okay, I would be getting teeth removed the following week. I'm so excited to finally be working toward oral health!
Today is the day. I haven't eaten or had any fluids since 12am. The dental office calls me at 11:30a to see if I can come, like now. Sure, but I wanted to make sure we could start extractions today. I told the receptionist I had no food or fluid since nite B4 and can we start today? She said you can eat before you come; you aren't getting sedation. EXCUSE ME?! I said well I can't do it then.
She put me on hold; when she comes back-youre going to love this-now all of a sudden there is going to be a charge. Of what I asked? Well, when your teeth are pulled, something about a gum or bone graph to put into socket of each tooth pulled to avoid dry sockets. Now I have had extractions enough times to know what that means and that the o. s. gives you home care instructions to avoid that from happening. Oh and the price of that little procedure? $400+ PER TOOTH!!!
Now even the receptionist knew that this was something the o. s. "supposedly" did with "everyone". Really? But the dentist whom I saw along with his assistant, who are actually dealing with the patients, apparently were unaware of that. And of course that Medi Cal won't cover that.
I will tell you why I never had that bone graph or ever even heard of that with previous extractions, was because, prior to this, I had private insurance. But now with Medi Cal, we have to have "charges that aren't covered" except out of my pocket. Isn't that special? Maybe the receptionist should be in the back with the dentist, as she clearly knows more than he does!
