CLUB PILATES OF JENSEN BEACH & PORT ST. LUCIE STUDIO – COMPLAINT
September 2024


I document the following experience for the benefit and protection of current or future members of Club Pilates, and for management to consider implementing protocols to monitor the conduct of this instructor.

This narration is to document my experience that being humiliated by Head Instructor Erin, calling out and insulting one of my body parts in front of an entire Pilates Class on a portable microphone/speaker is not acceptable under any circumstances. I am paying a $3,348.00 annual membership fee to de-stress and improve my health, not to be the target of humiliating and insulting remarks by a so-called professional instructor.

Incident: August 13, 2024, 11:00 AM:

While in the referenced class, coming through the portable microphone, I hear Erin say, “Look at Penny’s BIG OLD BUTT,” while laughing loudly, ha, ha, ha, ha. I was shocked and humiliated! When I responded, “I worked hard for this butt,” Erin repeated what I said through the microphone and she laughed even louder.

Erin saw the disgusted look on my face as our eyes met and immediately tried to turn her insulting remark around and tell everyone to look at my form. When I confronted Erin via text about her offensive, personal attacks, she responded that she meant it to be a positive comment and a complement, and that she wanted everyone to aspire to my form. Then she further acerbates her insult by stating, “I am sorry about the miscommunication.”

Note: I have advised four general managers to bring their attention to Erin’s offensive behavior and ongoing unprofessional conduct in her classes as follows:

I brought this immediate issue at the Port Saint Lucie location to the attention of General Manager Mary and also forwarded her the text messages between this instructor Erin and I that resulted from this incident. Three days later, Mary called me to apologize for Erin’s misconduct stating, and I quote, “There is no way Erin’s comment about your butt could have been a complement.” Mary said that this complaint would go into Erin’s file and she would go through counseling. I further told Mary that because of the humiliation and discomfort Erin caused, I am now paying for classes that I will not attend because I would never attend one of Erin’s classes again! My understanding is that Erin is the Head Instructor and this is the typical unprofessional example she sets for her team.

I brought it to the attention of General Manager Michelle about Erin speaking about her sex life in front of the class.

I also suggested to General Manager Debbie at the Jensen Beach location, that she would be wise to speak to Erin about the filthy language she uses in her classes.

(One of the General Manager’s in Jensen Beach made a remark, “Greg owns Club Pilates Studio, BUT Erin owns Greg!) Greg is the Owner.

Port St. Lucie Florida Class Location- 2024

There was an incident where an elderly member broke his wrist in Erin’s class. Erin made an insensitive remark after the man left with the paramedics, she blurted out in a disgusted tone, “I can’t believe this guy broke his wrist and how bad this looks on the studio to the two new members in the class”.

Finally, it is difficult to express the emotional discomfort and anxiety to even attend other classes because of instructor Erin’s insult, and if it was not under my doctor’s instructions that I need to work out with Pilates Reformers, I would not be a member of Club Pilates.
