Luke's five-star ratings on Google were alluring, especially having thirteen of them. Had I looked closer, before taking my daughter to his practice, I'd have noticed that five of the thirteen reviews were written by colleagues between 5 and 6 months ago. During that same time period, three other 5-star reviews were posted by individuals with no description of service.
We recently went to Luke (on a Wednesday morning) to seek a comprehensive psychological evaluation for my adult daughter whose presentation is complex. The initial intake appointment went well and assessment appointments were immediately scheduled for the upcoming Monday and Tuesday evenings. Unexpectedly, my daughter's mental health rapidly declined and admittance to a residential facility was determined to be necessary. Luke was notified via voicemail Saturday evening of the unanticipated change and of the need to cancel her upcoming assessment appointments. Monday evening, 10 minutes after the cancelled appointment was to have begun, we were charged $250. Luke stated that he had received her message, that he wished her the best, but that since her appointment was not cancelled 48-hours in advance (based on Monday through Friday business hours) the late cancellation would be assessed as per the agreement she signed prior to her intake appointment. When an appeal was made, given her unexpected turn of events, Luke explained that he is required by ethical standards to apply all of his policies in a fair and consistent manner.
Adherence to ethical standards has obviously become a priority for Luke since the last time a complaint about his practices was brought before the State Board of Psychologist Examiners (something else I wish I'd have look at closer before taking my daughter to his practice).
