We invested in a project directly with the owner, expecting to be reimbursed over a year ago. However, we still have not received the funds owed to us. Whenever we reach out for an update, they claim they're doing their best but mention that financial times are tough.

This money was crucial for us, as it came from an insurance payout. My wife is unable to work due to illness, and now I am also unable to work. We hoped to invest safely to secure a small nest egg for monthly expenses. Unfortunately, we are now living in a temporary place, unable to afford rent in the current market. We face the possibility of being homeless by March, while the owner of this company appears to maintain a comfortable lifestyle, living in a fancy house and likely sending her children to private school.

It's frustrating and disheartening to think about how they can sleep at night knowing their actions have caused us—and likely others—such financial distress. I suspect we are not alone in experiencing this hardship.
