Craig Ross of Ross Construction and Design was arrested on fraud and theft charges on July 24, 2020. Charges were later dropped after he paid the person suing him. Fast forward and he has decided suing his customers is retribution! If you are considering working with Ross Construction, consider my involvement - an experience I would NEVER want to repeat. I was blindsided - Mr. Ross became adversarial. Within a day of the project ending, he placed a Lien on my house, threatened to withhold the certificate of completion, and sued me for $6,000.00 he is NOT owed. In July 2022 I had the necessary permits to construct a bedroom and bathroom. Craig asked about my budget and how I would pay. I said I had two other quotes and would use my military retirement account. His bid was $86,450.00 - 1% higher than one of the other bids. I pillaged my military retirement account and paid Ross Construction $128,000.00.

I noticed a whiteboard and said, wow, you have 94 jobs right now? Craig said he reviews his jobs every week and his 25% percent profit earnings on my project is down to 17%. Constantly, Mr. Ross acknowledged he was below his profit margin, and routinely reminded me that he was not making money on this project. He said it as if he had the right to manufacture change orders and cut corners.

Slammed with change orders, I attempted to back out of two that were not contractually finalized and were met with contention and flat-out refusals to revert to the original specifications.

In October 2022, he suggested I upgrade two rear sets of stairs to a full deck. The stairs are in the original contract. I agreed to an additional $7,865.00 and days later the price increased by an additional $5,000.00 due to a misquote. I said revert to the original contract. The conversation became contentious. Mr. Ross bluntly refused, and I ultimately caved in and honored the change order after a drawn-out discussion.

December 2022 we were in the final stretch, and he suggested a front porch change order. After paying a majority, I sent a written desist and said to apply the $5,000.00 to the $6,000.00 owed. It did not bode well and quickly became a dispute. Calls asking for the rest of the money for the change order were relentless. The crew did not show back up. It was not until the end of January that Mr. Ross said if I stick to the change order, he will send his crew to finish the project. I reminded Craig and his assistant/girlfriend I am a disabled combat Army veteran, and I am struggling with all their harassment. I told them I was at my worst having to deal with them and that I was barely sleeping. That is when they ratcheted up.

Fast forward to February 2023 when Ross Construction notified me that they were finished with the project. In turn, I notified him in writing after the owner walk-thru that there was defective and incomplete work per the original contract and subsequent change orders. He responded to the email, admitting to having not completed certain items I highlighted in my email. Then he called and threatened to withhold the certificate of completion. Then I received an email he had filed a Lien the day after the walk-thru. He was unwilling to discuss expressed concerns regarding performance issues, and monies I was due to be reimbursed - totaling over $12,000.00 when adding the items that were not done to standard. I purchased the flooring for the entire project, he REFUSED to finish the bathroom and I ended up paying for the toilet, shower enclosure, sink, and other items that he was responsible for per the original contract.

I have spent over $6,000.00 on defense. We participated in mediation. After costly hours, through my lawyer, to squash this I relented and offered $3,000.00 and Mr. Ross flat out REFUSED. The next step is tens of thousands of dollars when it goes to trial. It is laughable until it is not.

Sign a contract to your detriment.
