I was referred to the Clinic by my family doctor for skin cancer. The Clinic doctor prescribed an ointment that made my skin look and feel like the surface of the sun. The pain was intense. She then referred me to a surgeon at St Paul's Hospital for removal of infected areas. Surgery was completed on 28 June. I was advised by the Surgeon to discontinue this prescription and to "throw it away". On my next visit to the Clinic on 23 Sept. I advised the staff doctor of the surgeons advice. She advised that she would then give me a prescription that my original skin specialist had prescribed many months before. As this specialist was retired I was required to sign a Consent Form to allow this info to be transferred. I signed the Consent. After not hearing, I stopped by the Clinic on 9 Nov to enquire as to the Consent, and was told they could not find it. I called the next day and was advised that they had found it and that it had not been sent but that they would do so that same day. I called again the following day and was advised that it had only been sent that morning. When I asked the reason for the long delay I was told that "we are very busy you know". I stopped again at the Clinic on 29 Nov and was told they had no reply to their fax. I suggested that they contact either my family doctor or pharmacist to retrieve the old prescription. When I called on the 30th I was advised that the Clinic doctor would only prescribe the same ointment the surgeon had told me to throw away.
It would appear that there is no follow up on files in the office to ensure that required actions are completed.
I find it difficult to understand why they would only prescribe something that a surgeon does not recommend. Where does that leave the patient?
I realize that the Clinic is busy; however that is not the proper reason to be given when a mistake is made.
Outside of the Manager, I find the staff to be very unfriendly - or perhaps they are just overworked as they claim.
I would not recommend the Clinic.
