I met Matt Koohanim around 1 year ago when my life changed. I was not making healthy choices that led to removal from my home by court order, restraining order, loss of my children, and headed towards divorce.

And the thing I found is when you make bad choices, the trials and tribulations that come back to you from the people you hurt are worse often than anything you may have done. That’s life, I suppose.

I trusted Matt because of his experience with DCFS, but more so, with how he seemed to understand people. He spoke to me countless times, especially in the beginning when my emotions were extremely high, and provided me not just legal guidance but personal direction. He never judged me, but encouraged me to take personal accountability for all my actions and all my worries over time would resolve themselves naturally. I knew Matt couldn’t stop my wife from divorcing me, but he assured me, every time I asked, I would restore and have a better relationship with my children and the restraining order would be removed.

In the beginning months of my case he helped negotiate a deal with all the legal parties that protected my record and gave me a fighting chance to redeem myself and atone to the people I hurt, which in this case happened to be my family. And any time anyone tried to hurt my chances in any way, Matt made time to speak with me and then act swiftly. He knew the precise words to write in exchanges that caused immediate change in my treatment. When we met in court, Matt always kept a calm and deliberate demeanor that enabled the court to receive his motions positively. This allowed me to focus on the personal work I had to do in order to end my case.

Two days ago, the court closed my case. All of my parental rights are restored, the temporary restraining order is gone, I have an even better and healthier relationship with my children, and although we are getting divorced, my wife and I are better friends than ever and are coparenting well, which is what the kids deserve.

Matt is an excellent lawyer I have full custody of my son now thanks to his work in the court room and the direction in what to do to please the courts that he gave me. When I came to him I only had 1 supervised visit per year on paper this was the second DCFS case the first one I was the victim and she went to jail I left during the DCFS investigation and didn’t participate in the case since I didn’t press charges like the police had advised me to when they took her to jail she had lied about me in that case and since I wasn’t there to defend her bs allegations the courts had ruled unfairly against me. By the time I found out about the second case my son had been in the system for over 4 months! The courts had provided me with a free totally incompetent lawyer after leaving court I was reaching out to the lawyer and her office for over a week calling 4-5 times per day with not 1 call being returned!!! I knew I needed real solid representation to get my kid out of the system I meet with or had phone consultations with everyone in the field they were all giving me bad vibes except Matt so I followed my gut and went with him. He guaranteed to bring my son home to me permanently and promised me I would finally get to raise my son ! He laid out the whole process on what he would be doing and what I would need to do to make this a reality not to mention he was always there when I needed a shoulder to cry on or had a question also his office would call me a week before and the day before any court dates to keep me on point…. Nowadays I have Sole physical custody and the mother has 1 , 4 hour visit per month that she never shows up for might I add, her loss really… life is Great !
