I lived in an apartment in a building for 20 years. The building was beautifully cared for by the owner. Then it became a little too much for him and he needed to sell. The new owners never introduced themselves and used Bay Property Management Group to "care" for the building. From 2021-2023, there was a rent increase of 46% in one fell swoop. I went from paying $685 to $1000. One of the two washing machines available was broken for 3 months with stagnant water sitting in it despite multiple calls for maintenance. Tenants were often told they had to make themselves available to let repair men into areas that should have been the responsibility of the management company. The hallways weren't painted and cracks were not repaired. The laundry room became an over-crowded storage area. Shrubbery outside was not cared for and overgrew the railings, making it dangerous to try and get down the steps when it snowed and it took more than 24 hours for shoveling to happen.
When I decided to move out, I was told that not only would I not be getting my security deposit back, but that I needed to pay for repainting the apartment and the replacement of the horizontal blinds. The apartment hadn't been painted, the carpet hadn't been updated and the horizontal blinds were the same as the day I moved in 22 years before. They also tried to say I owed them for a last month's rent. When I was able to prove I had paid my Last Month's Rent when I signed the original lease and also provided documentation from their website that my Security Deposit should not be used for the paint and blinds, they stopped all contact with me. 7 months after I moved out and 4 months after I last heard from them, my Security Deposit has not been returned.
Avoid renting any apartment managed by Bay Property Management Group if you have any desire for a pleasant place to live.
